15 hours in a van. It's not the best way to start week but we survived and the rest of the week was absolutely wonderful. This month our whole family road tripped it down to Pensacola, FL so Adam and I could teach in the local Perspectives classes. In the mornings, we took time off to spend with our family: we visited the beach and watched the amazing blue angels (not our video). We also got some time to see some old friends.
In the evening we taught lesson 15 in a three class loop. Lesson 15 is the last night of the Perspectives course and one of our favorite lessons to teach. We call it the "Mobilizer's Dream." At this point in the course, the students have been on a long journey and learned a lot about God and His mission. Lesson 15 is when we ask the question, "so what? what now?" and explore all the many ways they can get involved in expanding the Kingdom of God. Our version of the lesson goes over aspects of calling (we are all called to be a part of expanding the Kingdom of God. Therefore the question is not, "Am I called?" but instead, "How is God preparing me for the calling I already have?") . We then go over four practices of engagement (mobilizing, sending, going, welcoming) and four daily disciplines of the World Christian Disciple (praying, community, stewardship, and learning).
The best part of teaching the last class is getting to hear the students process all they've learned and how God is challenging them and calling them to get involved. We met students that are saying yes to go over seas, get their church more involved in international student ministries, mobilize their friends and so much more.
